Assigning a space and number

Once all polylining is completed in a drawing, you can now begin to assign room numbers, and space classes.
The easiest way to do this is to start with the number (quick command “NM”) command. This allows you to number in sequential order, and multiple spaces. After all spaces have been numbered, you can use the edit multiple (quick command “EM”) command to edit several spaces that have the same space class type (e.g. – all workstations).
You can also edit spaces one at a time with the edit (quick command “ED”) command. With this command, a dialog box appears, where you will need to enter a room number, and space information.

Remaining Area

At RSC, we need to be sure the remaining area is <1.00 sq ft, after all polylines have been cataloged. To find this, you must log in to Smart Client and open up the floors (fl) table. Add the “Remaining Area ft2” column through the “Fields” button.
Calculating remaining area
:*Remaining Area ft2 = Int. Gross Area ft2 – Total Room Area ft2
::*Interior Gross = the interior polyline in the floor plan drawing
::*Total Room Area = the total square footage of RM polylines
:::*When the Total Room Area is a negative number, this generally means that you have more RM polyline space than the amount of Interior Gross polyline space.
::::*This could be because you have polylines outside of the Gros pline, or you have overlapping RM polylines in some areas.
:::*When the Total Room Area is a positive number, this shows that your RM polylines have gaps in between them, or the total square footage of RM polylines is not completely

Room numbers are supplied by El Camino Hospital project managers when drawings are sent to RSC’s AutoCAD Dept.

Pinterest

Room numbers are supplied by Pinterest project managers when drawings are sent to RSC’s AutoCAD Dept.

Samsung

Room numbers should be created with expansion in mind. This will prevent issues down the road where there are no remaining numbers for new spaces. This is a current issue, hopefully to be resolved later. For larger buildings, like USSJ3655, using the North, West, South, and East directions helps users and WayFinding navigate throughout the building quickly.
Floor number should also be used to distinguish location when searching for a room.

::*N – shows location within building, in this instance, North
::*170 – location number, this should be 3-4 digits

:*Vertical Penetration, shafts, interior encroachment spaces (V)

:::*C – circulation space, V – Vertical Penetration, S – Stairs, E – Elevators

:::*00 – this is the location number, can also be 3 digits
:*If the building is large, it is highly recommended to use 3 digits to prevent running out of space/numbers
Existing buildings are not always numbered in the above manner. Going forward, new buildings should follow this room numbering style. For existing buildings, please follow the numbering system used for that specific floor. If an existing building or floor is getting completely refreshed, please follow this standard room number practice.

Zynga

Room numbers are supplied by Zynga project managers when drawings are sent to RSC’s AutoCAD Dept.

Changing a Building Name

In the event a client would like to change the name of a building (and its drawing), this is the basic process. (PLEASE UPDATE AS NEEDED!!!)
Smart Client/Client Server
:1. Restrict and export the following tables
::a. rm
::b. fl
::c. gros
::d. afm_dwg
AutoCAD w/ Smart Client/Client Server Extension
:2. Uncatalog
::a. rm polylines
::b. gros polylines
:3. Close the AutoCAD files
Smart Client/Client Server
:4. Delete the entry from the afm_dwgs table
:5. Rename the files in Meridian (or Windows Explorer)
AutoCAD w/ Smart Client/Client Server Extension
:6. Open the files in Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD
:7. Provide new drawing properties for the drawings
:8. Catalog
::a. gros polylines
:::i. Check to make sure that the DWG Name and Entity Handle shows up in the gros table

Changing a Building Code

In the event a client would like to change the building code, this is the basic process. (PLEASE UPDATE AS NEEDED!!!)
Smart Client/Client Server
:1. Access the bl table, and create the new Building Code
::a. You can copy address, date built, Site Code and any other information as needed from the existing building/floor
:2. In the fl table, create the new Floor Code(s) needed under the new building code
:3. Next, you need to restrict each of the following tables under the existing building and floor
::a. Transfer (do not export) all records/tables with this building/floor into XML format
:::i. rm (rooms)
:::ii. em (employees)
:::iii. eq (equipment)
::b. Be sure to expand all fields so no information is left behind when moving to the new building code
::c. Do not delete old building or floor records – Historical information is saved and may be needed later
Windows Explorer
:4. Copy AutoCAD files and rename to new building code
::a. AB
::b. IB
::c. FM
AutoCAD w/ Smart Client/Client Server Extension
:5. Open original/existing FM drawing
::a. AFM_CNGFL in AutoCAD command line or

:::i. Type in new building code information (Must be spelled EXACTLY how the file is named, including CAPS)

:::iii. Select objects (do not select xref)
